National Assessments

Phonics Screening Check

The check usually takes place in June when children are in Year 1. Due to the Covid-19 outbreak, this will take place in the autumn term of Year 2 this academic year.

For this assessment, children will read 40 words out loud to a teacher. Parents will find out how their child did before the end of the summer term.

If your child does not achieve the pass score, they will re-sit the assessment near the end of Year 2.

Key Stage 1 Statutory Assessment Tests

To support teacher assessment, Year 2 will complete the following Key Stage 1 tests:

  • English reading
  • English grammar, punctuation and spelling
  • Maths

These assessments will be carried out during the month of May and parents will receive a report of the teacher assessed results by the end of the summer term.
